We understand that carpal tunnel syndrome can significantly impact your daily life. Our affordable carpal tunnel release surgery is designed to alleviate your symptoms swiftly and effectively, ensuring you can return to your routine without unnecessary delays.
What is Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Carpal tunnel syndrome occurs when the median nerve, which runs through a narrow passageway in the wrist called the carpal tunnel, becomes compressed. This compression can lead to symptoms such as pain, tingling, numbness, and weakness in the hand and fingers.
Treatments
There are a number of treatments that do not involve surgery. These include
- Applying cold packs
- Applying a wrist splint at night
- Taking anti-inflammatory painkillers to reduce inflammation
- Wearing wrist splints at night to keep your wrist in a neutral position
- Steroid injection to reduce inflammation
If these are not successful, or you choose to proceed straight to
surgery, we offer both open and endoscopic (keyhole) carpal tunnel release surgeries, performed under local anaesthetic in a bespoke outpatient minor procedure room.
Open Surgery
- This involves an incision (3-4cm) in the palm of the hand to access and release the compressed nerve.
- You will have a bandage on that can be removed around 3 days after surgery
- You will have a waterproof dressing that can be removed around 10 days following surgery
- You will have stitches that may or may not have to be removed (if you have a preference, let us know)
- You will need to keep the wound clean and dry for 2 weeks until it has healed
- You may have a slightly sore palm for a few weeks or so, preventing activities and work using the hand
Endoscopic Surgery
- This involved a tiny (8mm) incision in the wrist. A tiny camera and instruments are used to see the nerve and release it
- You will have a waterproof dressing and can start to use the hand immediately for activities
- The dressing can be removed around 3-5 days and the stitches will fall out by themselves
- The benefit of endoscopic carpal tunnel release is the
rapid return to use of the hand. This is good for those that live alone or need both sides operating on at the same time, (which also
saves you money and recovery time)
